Cottey College
Cottey College is a nationally ranked, fully accredited, independent, liberal arts and sciences college for women located in Nevada, Missouri and has been owned and supported by P.E.O. since 1927. It offers baccalaureate and associate degrees in a variety of majors. Cottey College, a debt-free institution, welcomes women from around the world.
Cottey’s relationship with the P.E.O. Sisterhood has helped maintain a rigorous and focused educational program and facilities that rival larger, well-known four-year liberal arts colleges and universities.
The faculty consists of 41 full-time highly qualified professors; 90 percent of whom hold doctoral degrees or the terminal degrees in their fields. Cottey faculty members, individually and in collaboration with students, regularly publish and present in national venues. The student-to-advisor ratio is 8:1.
Cottey students demonstrate a great sense of ownership in their education and many students take advantage of the numerous leadership, internship and student abroad opportunities available through the College.
Cottey’s attractive campus blends restored historic buildings and modern structures. Highlights of the 80-acre campus include up-to-date academic facilities, beautiful sculptures and gardens, and a dining room with food that is second to none. Housing in three resident halls features apartment-style suites, each with single or double bedrooms, a living room, bathroom, and kitchenette.
Cottey College is located in Nevada, Missouri, 100 miles from Kansas City and two hours from Kansas City International Airport. Nevada is a city of approximately 8,300 residents, with more than 12,000 in the surrounding Vernon County.
Cottey athletics participates in intercollegiate basketball, cross country, esports, golf, softball, track, and volleyball and a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Athletic scholarships are awarded for these sports based on demonstrated ability.
Cottey offers physical education classes in bicycling, swimming, life guarding, hiking, and aerobics; a minor in Fitness Education; and a Wellness Program with health and fitness classes, such as kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, and Zumba. A workout center and indoor pool are available for student free-time use.
Each Cottey student has the opportunity to participate in a week-long European trip paid for, in great part, by the College. Students, joined by faculty and staff, have experienced educational modules in England, France,Germany, Italy and Spain. In lieu of the European trip and on a space-available basis, students may select another international experience. These trips vary from year to year and have included Australia, Guatemala, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Tanzania and Thailand.
Cottey has a residential capacity of 350, and the student population typically includes both residential and computer students from 40 states and 20 countries. Cottey College appreciates referrals for strong, intelligent, and capable women.
