HISTORY OF P.E.O. CHAPTER EZ, MESA 🌼

Timeline for historical information relating to P.E.O. Chapter EZ, Mesa, Arizona. 🏜️

2005 - Several members of Chapter AV, (Mary Schatz, Phyllis Swan, Sharon Oien and Grace Cokeley) desired to find a chapter that met in the daytime, so they did not have to drive at night. 🚗 They thought it might be nice to start a new chapter.  Initial contact was made with the P.E.O. State Organizer, Alix Smith in August 2005, to explore this possibility.  On September 16, 2005, 'the four' women sat down around Mary Schatz's dining table to discuss the information provided by the organizer and to determine whether or not we were committed to forming a new chapter, but no matter how we looked at it, the need for a daytime chapter was still there.  The decision was to forge ahead. 👩👩‍🦰👸👩‍🦱

2005 - Contacts were made with members of Chapter AV and others who were concerned about driving at night and wanting to attend a daytime chapter.  On October 25th fourteen potential members of the "forming chapter" attended a coffee held in the Card Room at the Fountain of the Sun. 👩🏼‍🤝‍🧑🏻👩🏼‍🤝‍🧑🏻👩🏼‍🤝‍🧑🏻 ☕🍪🎂🍰Generally, we just got acquainted with one another, talked about what was needed to form a new chapter, surveyed the group for the best day on which to meet, and enjoyed the refreshments.  Lovely table decorations in a 'fall theme' were provided by Phyllis Swan, and several of those in attendance were able to take them home just in time for their fall entertaining. 🌺🌼

2005 - On October 28th, "the four" 👩‍🦱👸👩‍🦰👩 met at the house of Sharon Oien with State Organizer, Alix Smith and the State Corresponding Secretary, Gayle Meltzer, next year's Organizer.  There was much conversation over lunch.  It was our task to show the State officers that we were able to establish the need for new daytime chapter, that the date and time chosen would not conflict with other chapters in the area, and that we were willing to do the work needed to proceed.  Three of "the four" asked that Sharon Oien be the person who would ask for consent and would hold the charter.

2005 - On November 3rd, we received an anxiously awaited email from Alix, telling us that we had the 😊 "go ahead to begin work on a daytime chapter in Mesa."  We were very excited and anxious to get the word to everyone.  But there was one more step in the approval process.  A letter was prepared and read at the December 8th meeting of Chapter AV to help membership better understand our reasons for wanting to form this new chapter.  Sharon Oien, then asked for consent from AV, as our sponsoring chapter.  Consent was granted by unanimous vote, and AV President, Carol Holdhusen, stated that it would be exciting to help this new chapter get started. 🤍

2006 - Twenty resigned from their previous chapters and four were Charter Initiates.  P.E.O. Arizona State Chapter assisted in the Ceremony of Initiation and the Reaffirmation of Vows.  A nominating committee for Chapter EZ was formed, elections of officers and Installation of Officers for our New Chapter EZ.  Declaration of Organization was declared.  Committees were formed. 👵👩‍🦰🧑‍🦱👱

2006 - On January 8th we began to meet formally on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month:  9:30 am coffee, business meeting at 10:00 am and Program at 11:00 am. 🌼

2006 - Grace Cokeley attended the Arizona State Convention, as a visitor.  Our supporting Chapter AV graciously paid for her housing and meals.

2006 - Phyllis Swan put together a yearbook, including programs, meeting dates, times, Bylaws, and personal information. 📒

2006-2007 - State officers instructed us to make our primary focus the first couple of years on bonding with each other in order to make a strong chapter.  💛

2006-2007 - Of our 15 required meetings, 13 were business meetings and two were social.  We entertained our BIL's at an "EZ to be Green" party for St. Patrick's Day🍀; and Stacey Heimkes shared with us the background history of several carols at our Christmas🎄 social.  Our Arizona chapters were gracious in sending us🤍 'love gifts', we each donated a $1.00 to our courtesy basket at each meeting and $1.00, if we had a "brag" at the close of the meeting.

2006-2007 - Because of our successful fundraising this first year, we were able to donate money to each of our Projects. 💲

2014 - Our chapter had 2 EFL Recipients; and 1 STAR nominee.  One name was presented for Faith McKee; and one nominee for PCE.  We remember our nominated recipients and Cottey College women during the course of the year with notes of encouragement and/or care packages; we realize these special women are potential P.E.O.'s.
